Why Moisturize?
Even when at rest, the human body loses around 1.5-2 liters (64 oz) of water everyday.
We lose moisture from our bodies physically:
• urination
• breathing (water vapor)
• sweating
• bowel movements
We lose moisture from our bodies behaviorally:
• being in extreme temperatures – hot or cold, low humidity weather, or high winds
• not drinking enough water
• taking too hot of showers
• using harsh soaps
• excessive over washing
As the skins outer layer loses moisture, natural oil production is reduced and signs of aging increase.
We use lotion or body butter to lock in skin hydration by reinforcing the skin’s natural barrier that slows water loss from the skin.
Many lotions and body butters have ingredients that penetrate the outer layer of the skin, hydrating the cells beneath, delivering nutrients.
Ingredients are usually selected for their ability to improve skin appearance as well as health. Common targets are – skin elasticity, fine lines, dullness, and irritation.
Why moisturize in cold weather?
Indoor heating, low humidity, freezing temperatures, and cold winds lead to dry itchy skin.
Cold temperatures reduce the skin’s natural oil production. Your skins natural protective barrier is under attack! It may not be able to maintain hydration on its own. Using body butter replenishes those oils and strengthens the barrier to prevent water loss
Why moisturize in hot weather?
You are losing water from sweating, the sun with hot temperatures can cause irritation, and air conditioning can dry out your skin, all leading to dehydration.
High temps can breakdown the skins natural barrier leading to irritation and sensitivity
Your skin’s main function is to provide a layer of protection around your body. Why not make the job a little easier?
We offer a shea butter based body butter that is great for skin protection especially in cold temperatures.
